Top Ten Tuesday: My Favorite Books by Asian Authors

As usual, this is being hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. I’m not actually doing the top 10 that is suggested for this week – books with nature on the cover, instead I’m going to do a post in honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and post about my top 10 favorite books I’ve read by Asian authors. They may not be actually about Asian characters exactly, but these are books that were written by those authors that I really enjoyed and always recommend.

I really loved this book! And I’m so excited for the sequel later this year! HERE is my review.

This is one that I got as an ARC one year at BEA. Then it was a nominee for one of the Missouri Association of School Librarians reader awards, so I read it for that and loved it. I loved it so much I read it with a group of students later that year as well. HERE is my review of it!

A really great story that I got a copy of the ARC from the bookstore where I used to work. Unfortunately I did not get an ARC of the second book, and so I am way behind on this series! HERE is my review of this one.

Another one that I adored but never got to read on in the series. I do know that I need to though, because I loved this one! HERE is my review.

This was another book that I got as an ARC from the bookstore where I worked, but I loved it so much I did read all of the original series. I just still need to catch up with the extra two that came out a few years ago. HERE is my review.

Okay, this book right here, this whole trilogy is one of my all time favorites. I loved it so much! I haven’t seen a lot about this author on any things this month, but I’m pretty sure she is part Korean, so I am counting her on my list this week! HERE is my review for this book.

Now this is a much more recent one that I loved to death. And it made me so hungry reading it! HERE is my review.

Another one that I just adored! While I’ve still never seen a Bollywood movie, and I know I need to, I want to, I also was a teen girl obsessed with the movies that were a big part of my life. So this one was a winner for me. HERE is my review.

Another more recent YA that I couldn’t put down was this tribute to K-Pop. I’m not a huge listener to K-pop, or really any newer music these days, as I mostly listen to audiobooks in my car. But I loved this look at that world. I see there might be a sequel or companion to this story and I am so there for that! HERE is my review.

My last book I’m including is an adult romance. But I loved the story, and it wasn’t just Asian characters, but also they had neurodiverse characteristics that made it an even more incredible read. HERE is my review.

Final Thoughts:

Those are my top 10 Asian authors that I’ve read. Now, if I’d decided to do top 10 that I’m looking forward to, that could have been a really much longer than 10 list, because there are so many great books coming out! Have you read any of these? Do you have any recommendations of other YA Asian American authors I should try?

I agree! I don’t feel that I hear about it that much, but I liked it a lot! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I love your topic this week! I have read a few of these – Legend, Shatter Me and The Kiss Quotient. The latter is the only romance book I’ve ever truly enjoyed and not spent at least 50% of rolling my eyes! (No shade at the genre, I just don’t know how to pick them and have ended up choosing a few not great ones! Though based on this one, there are some out there I’d love, even though I’m a total cynic!) I haven’t read All These Things I’ve Done, but The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin is one of my all-time favourite books. Thank you for sharing this post!

I’ve only read that one series by Zevin, but it is one of my all time favorites. You might like the books by Penny Reid, she has some really great real characters in her stories! Thanks for visiting!

I’ve read An Ember In The Ashes but wasn’t a massive fan, I have been told the series gets better though, so I may try the second book at some point. These Violent Delights is on my TBR. I really like Roshani Chokshi’s Gilded Wolves books, the first two books in the trilogy, The Gilded Wolves and The Silvered Serpents are already out and the final book, The Bronzed Beasts comes out later this year.

  3. Great list! I love that you chose to highlight Asian authors, especially during AAPI heritage month. You picked some really awesome authors to include on your list as well – I’ve read quite a few of these and absolutely adored their books!

I thought it was a good time to do a list like this, and I’ve read more lately, so they were fresh on my mind! Thanks for visiting!

I thought a few of the choices might have some nature, but they didn’t all end up with that. Thanks for stopping by!

Stacey Lee has some books out I really want to read! Thanks for sharing your favorites with me and visiting!

  4. I like that cover for My So- Called Bollywood Life. I think I even did a Bookcover Spotlight on it ages ago. Mafi is an author I’ve been wanting to read. I like what you did with the list this week. 🙂

Ooh, you should get to that one! It was a long one, but really good! Thanks for stopping by!

  5. I read A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi a couple of months ago and absolutely loved it. I haven’t read her Shatter Me series yet though.

I’m not a huge romance reader but I listened to Kiss Quotient on a whim and really enjoyed it!

I got that book from her at ALA convention the year it came out, but haven’t read it yet. I need to. Thanks for stopping by!
