Weekly Wrap-Up #13

Posted April 4, 2021 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 21 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with both Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality) and the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

So we had two days with students back in the building this past week. And one of those days was a half day. And let me tell you, I’m exhausted! It was seriously like the first week of a school year. Getting used to having the kids there again and actually having more of a set schedule. And having to wear the mask pretty much all day with people in the library all day. I try to go back in the stacks and work on inventory away from everyone when I can, and I feel like it’s okay to not constantly wear the mask when I’m back there. I am vaccinated, so that makes me feel a little better about it as well. But I’m getting what they call “maskne” right now. It’s not fun.

April is Camp NaNoWriMo, and while I set a goal of 20,000 words to hopefully finish one of my stories that I need to finish, I have yet to do any writing, and I should be doing about 667 words a day. :-(. I did however get a beta read from Hot Tree Editing through a package I bid on and won in a charity auction. I got my YA novel all pulled together, because as I revise it, I tend to just retype into another document so I keep the old one. I think I need to quit doing that though. I sent it off today. We shall see how well it goes. It is one that if I can get it polished up, I want to start reaching out to either agents or publishers.

On the job front, this is the week that the school board at the district that offered me the new job will meet and my hiring should get approved. Then I can officially tell my new district and really get excited.

This was a big physical book week for me. First, there was a great deal on a series by one of my favorite authors, Helena Hunting, on paperbacks. The deal was almost as good as my employee discount at the bookstore used to be. And I couldn’t pass it up.

Then, I kept hearing so many good things about this book, The Firekeeper’s Daughter, that I just gave in and went and bought a personal copy instead of waiting for my school library order to come in. I mean, not that I’ve picked it up yet, but still. And while I was at the bookstore, I saw the cool special Epic Reads edition cover of another favorite book, 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson, and so I had to buy it as well.

And I got some awesome bookmail on Saturday! I got an ARC I’d been really hoping for since I got a really cool box with an ARC by this author last year. Here is my Instagram post for it:

I got two e-galleys to read for blog tours this week:

I got several free ebooks, and one that I bought for 99 cents after seeing an ad that made it look cute.

So the Thick Thighs Save Lives was the one I bought for 99 cents and it was a novella and short and sweet, but not a lot to it. I’ll do a review soon. Only the Pretty Lies is the Amazon First Reads this week.

  1. HOW EXCITING! I am happy for you about that job. That’s wonderful news. I guess it would be like the first week of school, since it’s been a year since the kids have been there. Good luck with that! I bought the Crane book too. I really enjoy her books.

Thanks! I’m really excited, but just found out that the board meeting to approve my hiring isn’t until NEXT week! Gah! I’m so ready to be able to talk about it at work. Thanks for stopping by!

It’s not fun. Looking forward to the day we are done with all this. And I found out today that it isn’t until next week that the board meeting will take place, so still not official yet. 🙁 Thanks for stopping by!

  2. That is quite a strain, having to keep all of that under your hat! And as I work from home – and indeed, haven’t been out at all for over a month, except for shopping for the first time today, I can only imagine just how hard it is to have to constantly wear a mask. I know my sister struggles with it quite badly.

Best of luck with the writing! And I hope you have a great week:).

I’m learning to deal with the mask, because I’m guessing the rules on that won’t change any until maybe next school year. But it’s not fun. Oh well, better to be safe, right? Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I don’t know how you are doing it. I retired from the school library a few years back, and my husband and I are constantly wondering how people who are working are doing it through all of this. It’s wonderful to think about the new job, isn’t it? It will be nice when it is official. Congratulations!

    • Lisa Mandina

It was official this week! Sorry, your comment got put in my spam folder. Grrr. Hope you had a great week, and thanks for stopping by my Weekly Wrap-Up!

  4. Sounds like a pretty exhausting week – even with just the two days in=person. Those Epic Reads special editions are so pretty. I was just eyeing the one for Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda over the weekend.

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, I almost bought that one too. But made myself stop with just two books. Thanks for stopping by!

Here’s hoping the same about masks! And congrats on being fully vaccinated. It is a good feeling! Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Congratulations on the new job! That is so exciting! Sounds like you had a busy week! I hope you were able to rest some. When I’m in the office I have to wear my mask all day too. I always feel like I’m wearing it on those evenings long after I’ve arrived home and taken it off. Ooo! We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This looks cute. I hope you are having a great week, Lisa!

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, the mask is something anyone who is not working at home is having to deal with. I’m excited to start my new job, but have to wait till next school year. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. It’s difficult when you have to wear a mask for long periods of time. Sorry to hear about the maskne. Luckily I work from home, so I only have tow ear a mask when I go grocery shopping and such. That’s awesome you got a new job offer, I hope it turns out great! And good luck with the book you’re writing! You have a great haul of books this week, I hope they’re all good ones.

I didn’t used to mind going out shopping and wearing a mask because I didn’t have to when either we were still working from home, or I was the only one in the library. But now that we are all back and I have to wear a mask all day, I find myself being a homebody in the evenings again. lol. Thanks for stopping by!

  7. I can imagine it will take a little time to get back to feeling full on at work.
I had been limiting office appointments because I don’t like wearing my mask all day. The last few weeks I have worn it longer during the day as I have been covering the real estate signings. It does seem to cause more tiring.
Our lives are different now than before March 2020.
Your header and Wrap Up image are cute. One of our two small dogs is a long-hair dachshund.
You had a full, full mailbox. Happy Reading!

    • Lisa Mandina

It is something we have to get used to for now. I get it, but still can’t help but complain a little. 🙂 Thanks! Ah! I love long haired dachshunds! My mom has one. I’ve always had the smooth kind, but the long hairs are so pretty and elegant looking! Thanks for stopping by!
