Weekly Wrap-Up #5

Once again I’ll be linking this up with both Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality) and the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

First of all, I’m currently on pins and needles waiting to see how my Kansas City Chiefs will do in the Superbowl tonight. I had my former student make some Chiefs themed cookies for me this past week:

My dog Argyle got his stitches out on Tuesday and the vet said he’s all healed up. I’ve already noticed changes in his behavior since being neutered. He eats anything and everything, whereas he used to be pretty picky, and he isn’t hiking his leg on everything in the house or having to go outside and go pee constantly. So yay for that! I just know now I’ll have to keep an eye on his weight.

Oh, I got my first Covid shot this past week as well.

Only one new physical book this week as you can see from the Instagram photo below:

Trying to keep track of the free ebooks I got this way too:

The Wedding Game by Meghan Quinn wasn’t supposed to be out till the beginning of March, and I had an e-galley of it, but then it was an Amazon First Read choice for February, so I went ahead and got a copy of it. If I can, I’ll try to fit it in before my originally scheduled review date of February 28th. A few of these were free by signing up for the authors’ newsletters.

Then I got a few more e-galleys this week:

Another one in the SmartyPants Romance series, the third by Piper Sheldon and I’m really enjoying her little series. And then I love this cover of the next K. Bromberg book as well as loving its series as well.

The only Bookstagram photos from this week I’ve already shared.

Last week’s posts:

Three reviews: Yesterday is History by Kosoko Jackson, This is Effortless by Kennedy Fox, and Take a Chance on Me by Beth Moran.

No promo posts because the ones I had scheduled turned out to only be social media posts. I also had one day I didn’t have anything scheduled for, so it was a slower week posting wise.

Weekly posts: Lisa’s Looking Forward To #95 – February 9th, 2021

And I always like to remind people about my monthly wrap-up post giveaway, which I actually posted this past week, so you can go enter it and read that HERE.

How was your week? Did you get any new books? Will you be watching the SuperBowl tonight? Are you rooting for either of the teams, or just enjoying the commercials?

  1. Glad to hear the stitches are out. I never had a male dog, but am fascinated by the behavioral changes you have noted. Good luck with your Chiefs (those cookies are fantastic). I don’t read too many books out of the contemporary realm, but I did download Lycanthropy. It sounds like a lot of fun. Hope we both enjoy it.

I was shocked by the behavioral changes so quickly. I assumed they would come slowly if at all. We’ll see how long it lasts, but so far they’re mostly good! I read mostly contemporary these days, when a year or two ago I didn’t like contemporary, but I still enjoy a bit of the other stuff. I think the Lycanthropy almost sounds a little contemporary with just a smidge of PN in it. Hope we both enjoy it. Thanks for stopping by!

Ah, it was such a tough night for Chiefs fans. But our quarterback is young and dedicated and we’ll be back! Thanks for stopping by!

Unfortunately he’s eating too much! He used to be more picky, and now I’m worried he’ll gain weight too quickly. I wish I could get to The Wedding Game earlier, but we’ll see. Thanks for visiting!

  2. I am Argyle is doing well after this surgery. Hopefully his eating will return to a more normal rate. I want to read Lycanthropy and Other Chronic Illnesses just from the title. The Wedding Game sounds good too! I haven’t decided on an Amazon Prime First reads book. So many sound good! I hope you have a great week, Lisa.

He seems to be back to normal for the most part! Thank goodness! There are several good sounding books this month to choose from. Thanks for visiting!

Ah, thanks! It was a rough loss, but we have a young quarterback, so we’re going to just go back and try again next year! Thanks for visiting!

YAY for already getting your COVDI shot! I’m waiting until I can get mine in a few months, but my husband gets his this Friday since his job is front line. I’m so excited for him! I was vacillating between The Wedding Game and a Greek mythology book, because I’m a sucker for those. I don’t know which to choose ack, I hope you have a lot of fun reading The Wedding Game!

    • Lisa Mandina

It is hard when they have more than one you’d be interested in! I wish I could start The Wedding Game now, but with my blogging schedule will probably have to wait till closer to its original pub date. Thanks for visiting!

  4. Glad to hear you’ve seen positive changes in your pup since he was neutered. We’ve been trying to decide how long to wait before neutering Digit. There is a slightly increased risk of hip dysplasia in medium to large dogs if you neuter them before 18 months, and since we’re doing agility with him those chances are even higher. So, we’ll probably wait until that 18-month mark, but poor Bella has to endure the brunt of his horniness. LOL!

Wow! I hadn’t heard that before. Yeah, I’d wait if I was you too. For the most part Argyle is doing better. Although of course as I was thinking that, today he hiked his leg and peed on his own dog bed after I had just taken him outside and didn’t pay attention to see if he’d gone while we were out. It’s a good thing I love that little guy. Thanks for visiting!

  5. Sorry about the Kansas City team losing. I love the cookies though! And yay vaccine! Illinois will let people with pre-existing conditions get the first dose in two weeks. Here’s hoping I can find someone distributing it!

    • Lisa Mandina

Good luck that you can get the vaccine in two weeks! They were having teachers as one of the levels to get it soon, and since I’ll be back in person with the students in a couple weeks, I’m glad we did. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Glad to hear your pup is doing okay now and that the stitches are out. Also, how wonderful that you were able to get your first shot! I am still waiting on mine – the school district I teach in is getting them for all teachers who want to take it, but our governor really loathes public schools, so he keeps pushing teachers further and further down the list of those who need them. And on top of that, my district was forced to go back 100% in-person a couple weeks ago. Hopefully we get our doses soon!

    • Lisa Mandina

That is frustrating about your governor! Even within the state where I teach it seems different counties are handling it differently. While my school hasn’t been in person since this time last year, they were great about getting us our shots. My co-librarian’s wife works in a school district in the next county over and they have had kids since last fall, but she still doesn’t know when she’s getting her shot. And I live in the state next to where I teach, and the teachers who teach in the district where I live haven’t gotten their shots yet. It’s all crazy! Here’s hoping you get your vaccination soon!
