Weekly Wrap-Up #1

Okay, I haven’t done a lot of weekly wrap-up posts for a long time. I started waiting and just doing monthly wrap-ups only. But I thought maybe I’d start this year out doing weekly wrap-ups if I could and had the time. I also had this cool drawing my sister-in-law did that I wanted to make into a button for my blog, so now I have something to use it for! I did participate in the Stacking the Shelves posts (hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality) twice in 2020. And I definitely want to link up with that one, as well as the Sunday Post hosted by  Caffeinated Book Reviewer. But I want to make it a quicker wrap-up than I used to. So let’s see if I can do that.

First, here are the books I added to my shelves this past week:

Purchased:

I took a trip to the bookstore where I used to work, actually last weekend, and wandered around. After having binged Bridgerton like so many of us have lately, I decided I wanted to read the next book in the series since who knows how long it will be until the second season gets filmed. Unfortunately they did not have any copies of the second book. So I settled for buying the first one with the media tie-in cover of The Duke & I. I have actually started reading that one. While I was there I just couldn’t only buy one book, so I allowed myself to buy Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade because I have heard good things about it and the author. I also decided to check out the little preview on Amazon that you can do for books and while normally Sanctum by Hannah McBride might not be what I’ve been reading a lot lately, I was hooked with that little bit I read. So I had to order it. And finally, my Book of the Month Club choice for January was The Dating Plan.

Book Mail:

This one I’d been bugging the publisher for an ARC since I first heard of it, I think the end of last summer! It finally arrived and I can’t wait to read it!

This is one I didn’t request, and while it sounds good, it is a novel in verse and I’m not always good with those. They don’t always hold my attention. I’m still trying to get through Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo.

Now, I have no idea how I got this book. It says I signed up for some program? I doubt I’ll read it. Will probably just donate it to my school library.

I had a busy week getting a few review books done, but actually, I am a bit ahead in my reading. I’m trying not to waste the time though, getting farther ahead before giving in and reading any books that aren’t on a review schedule. But it would be nice to keep that pace up. Of course the beginning of February I have like 5 or 6 that come out that first week and so I need to get going. One of them I got started while waiting on other review books to arrive, Much Ado About You, by Samantha Young. Although I did set it aside for another review book that I got on Friday. I also finished reading Midnight Sun this week, which I’d planned to finish last month. But then of course review books got in the way of that humongous over 600 page book.

Last Week’s Posts:

Reviews include: Be Dazzled by Ryan La Sala, The Ever After by Amanda Hocking, The Strike Out by Meghan Quinn, and The Fourth Time Charm by Maya Hughes. And sorta reviews: The DNF Report for December 2020.

  1. I know what you mean about reading books in verse… And I enjoy reading poetry – but right now I want my stories reasonably simple and fairly upbeat. You have made a strong start to 2021 with your reading, though:)). I hope the coming week is a good one.

Glad I’m not the only one. I appreciate good poetry, but like you, I just want to be able to read the story. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. The drawing is too cute! Love it! I had no idea BOTM send out books before they were published. I am excited about The Dating Plan. I really liked the previous book in this world. Enjoy all your new goodies.

Yeah, every once in awhile they have early books like that. I got one other one last year, of course I never got around to reading it so it is out now anyway. lol. I loved the drawing, had to use it! Thanks for visiting!

I think it will be a good way for me to start really keeping track of the books I buy as well. When I tried to save it all up for a month post I just couldn’t do it. Thanks for visiting!

  3. I didn’t know Bridgerton was based on books! Cool. I haven’t started the show but I hear people raving about it.

Cute blog button! Have a nice week. 🙂

Yeah, it is a series by Julia Quinn I guess. The show was fun, and as I’ve started the first book, I can see that they definitely got that from the book too. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I hope you are enjoying Much Ado About You. That’s one I want to read!! I’m a little behind on my reading, but hopefully it’ll pick up here soon. I’m over halfway through a longer book and that always slows me down.

I love the drawing your sister-in-law did. So cute, and it makes a lovely button.

I am so far! But I did have to put it aside for a bit as I got the other books that I have to review before it comes out. Thanks for stopping by!

I think the story in Acevedo’s book that I’m reading is good so far, just having issues moving through it as quickly as I do regular prose. Thanks for visiting!

I don’t know why but it grabbed me right away! If you try again maybe it will click for you, if not, that’s okay, everyone has different tastes! Thanks for stopping by!
