Author: Isabel Jolie
Publication date: September 21st 2020
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

They were friends—just friends. Now they’re something else entirely…

Jason
Maggie was my best friend’s girl. When he died… I don’t have the words. Indescribable pain.
But we healed. Together. She got me through my illness and became my friend, my confidant, my family. She’s everything to me.
And I ruined it all last night.
One drunken night. That’s all it took. Now I’m lost.
I want her with everything I am, everything I have, but she can’t be mine. She deserves someone with better odds than the doctors gave me.
Now, if I can’t figure out how to go back to the way things were, I’ll lose the most important relationship I have. The only one that truly matters.

Maggie
Last night was the best—and worst—night of my life.
He’s made it clear, more than once, that he only wants a friendship.
Then last night happened.
And now he knows how I feel.
He’s my best friend. I love him —mind, body, and soul. We have a visceral connection others can’t understand.
The problem? He’ll always see me as his best friend’s girlfriend, no matter how many years pass.
I can’t lose him. If he wants to stay in the friend zone, I’ll need to somehow accept that and move on. I know it’s true.
But convincing my heart…well, that’s another story entirely.

One night of excess tequila changes everything for two codependent best friends. Will they lose all they had, or can they find their way to something even better?

Author Interview:

1.  What does your writing process look like? Do you know the whole story when you start?  Or do you just start writing and go with it (seat of the pants writing)?  If you plan it out, how do you do that?  Outline, notecards, post-it-notes, etc.?

I’m a plotser. I research and daydream, then I set about thinking of what’s going to happen. I outline it loosely, chapter by chapter. Things change as I write, but for the most part I follow my outline.

2. Do you edit as you go, or wait till you’re finished before you edit?  How many times would you say you go over it yourself before having another set of eyes look it over?

My first draft is pretty much done before I edit. Sometimes I’ll go back and edit or fill in, but for the most part, I get the first draft done, then my extensive editing process begins. I’ll usually do at least one read through with edits before I send it off to beta readers and a development editor. I don’t look at it for like a month. When I review all the feedback, I’ll usually do notecards and map out changes. I’ll edit the big issues first, then go chapter by chapter with edits. I’ll edit and edit and edit. Then send it to my editor and edit and edit.

3.  Are you part of a writers group that gets together and helps each other with their writing?

I found a small group of RWA members in the Charlotte area. Pre-COVID we’d get together about once a week. We still have a group text and we’ll share info with each other from time to time.

4.  What tips do you have for aspiring writers?

Do something each day. It all adds up. And, if you decide to go the self-publishing route, plan for the long-term. Know that chances are it’s going to take more than one book to gain readers and traction.

5.   What are your favorite:

Books/authors/genres

Movies/TV Shows

Music

Food/Writing snack

Contemporary romance is by far my fave genre. I also read non-fiction, but mainly for research, and crime and thriller fiction. My list of favorite authors, as in I’ll read anything they put out, includes Louise Bay, Jana Aston, Sarina Bowen, Jewel E. Ann, Kate Stewart, Sierra Simone and Nikki Sloane.

I’m an alternative rock girl. Some of my current fave bands are Vampire Weekend, Post Malone and Chainsmokers.

I like all food, but I don’t snack. As a short chick, I sadly have to watch calorie count, and there’s no room for snacks. Well, if I snacked, I couldn’t have wine at the end of the day. So, I guess my snack is wine?
