A boy recently released from jail and the daughter of a prosecutor fall for each other against the odds in this YA novel.

Corey has just been released from jail, and all he wants is a new beginning. But when his former gang comes knocking, Corey agrees to vandalize the home of Kent Hopper, the prosecutor who put him away.

To erase the guilt she carries from getting away with a crime, Tessa spends most of her nights riding her motorcycle. When she catches Corey destroying her father’s car, she doesn’t see a criminal: She sees a way to finally right her own wrongs. So instead of turning Corey over to the police, she convinces her father to give Corey a second chance.

As Tessa and Corey spend more time with each other, it becomes difficult to ignore the pull between them. But they’re both keeping secrets, and when those secrets come to light, they’ll each have to face their demons in order to have a future together.

Author Interview:

1.  What does your writing process look like? Do you know the whole story when you start?  Or do you just start writing and go with it (seat of the pants writing)?  If you plan it out, how do you do that?  Outline, notecards, post-it-notes, etc.?

A: I’m definitely a “plantser”. I usually have a rough plot outline going into the first draft, as well as character sheets. I don’t like to have everything planned out perfectly, because I want to allow room for my characters to make their own decisions. Sometimes the end product looks like what I thought it would, other times it doesn’t. As long as I get it done and it makes sense, that’s all that really matters.

2. Do you edit as you go, or wait till you’re finished before you edit?  How many times would you say you go over it yourself before having another set of eyes look it over?

A: The only time I edit as I go is when I’m stuck on a certain chapter or scene. Going back to see how I got to where I am helps me figure out if I wrote myself into a corner, and if so how it happened, or get back into the right mindset for that particular manuscript. I usually revise it a couple of times before sending it to readers.

3.  Are you part of a writers group that gets together and helps each other with their writing?

A: I’m not! But I’ve heard so many great things about writers groups that I might join one day. I do have readers, both alphas and betas, that help me draft by draft. Having someone else read your work and offer feedback is such an important part of the process.

4.  What tips do you have for aspiring writers?

A: Keep writing. It’s the only thing you have control over. It’s the only way you’ll get better. Also, read A LOT. Both books you love and books you hate. Try to pinpoint why one book appeals to you more than another. Is it the characters? The plot? The writing style? Figure out what matters to you most in telling a good story and apply it to your own.

5.   What are your favorite:

Books/authors/genres: I have so many favorites! It’s hard to choose just one or two. Off the top of my head my favorite authors include: Juliet Marillier, Sarah Dessen, Melina Marchetta, Sandhya Menon, Nisha Sharma, Holly Black, and Brigid Kemmerer. I read all genres so picking a favorite is impossible! And I have too many books I love to choose just one.

Movies/ TV Shows (I’m going with my comfort watches): Pride and Prejudice (2005), North and South (mini series), 13 Going on 30, Hocus Pocus, Empire Records, any mid 90s Bollywood movies, The Office, Parks and Rec, The OC (because of Seth and Ryan), Superstore, Roswell (both the new and old version).

Music: I seriously can’t narrow down my favorites with music because it really depends on my mood, but my favorite song is Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve.

Food/Writing Snack: I love ALL foods equally! But my favorite writing snack is either chocolate or gummy bears.
