Lisa’s Looking Foward To #22 – July 16th, 2019

Back to joining up with the Waiting on Wednesday Posts, and the Can’t
Wait Wednesday posts hosted by Wishful Endings.  This week there are four on my list.

From my ARC list for July 16th:

Haven’t read anything by this author, but this one sounds like it could be good!

Here is the blurb from Goodreads:

New York Times
bestselling author Carrie Jones teams up with acclaimed cowriter Steven
Wedel in this supernatural mystery.  It should have been just another quiet
night on the farm when Logan witnessed the attack, but it wasn’t.

Something is in the woods.
Something unexplainable.
Something deadly.

Hundreds
of miles away, Chrystal’s plans for summer in Manhattan are abruptly
upended when her dad reads tabloid coverage of some kind of grisly
incident in Oklahoma. When they arrive to investigate, they find a
witness: a surprisingly good-looking farm boy.

As townsfolk start
disappearing and the attacks get ever closer, Logan and Chrystal will
have to find out the truth about whatever’s hiding in the woods…before
they become targets themselves.

I love a good story about food and the problems with eating, since I have those issues every day of my life!

Here is the blurb from Goodreads:

This honest,
laugh-out-loud novel brimming with body positivity, bite-sized nuggets
of feminism, and commentary on eating will have readers rooting for
sixteen-year-old BB as she navigates her world while maintaining her
plucky zest for life even in the most trying of times.

It’s a food diary. I have to tell the truth. That’s the point.

Sixteen-year-old Bluebelle, also known as BB or Big Bones, lives her life unapologetically. She loves life! She loves food!

When
BB has a worse-than-usual asthma attack, her mom insists she go to the
doctor. There, she is told that she is overweight (no surprise) and
prediabetic (big surprise) and must lose weight, move more, and keep a
food diary. To get out of this immediate health crisis, she agrees to
make an effort.

Then a tragedy occurs in the family, and things
get seriously complicated. Suddenly, losing weight and moving more are
the least of her worries. As for the food diary, though, BB doesn’t just
document what she’s eating, she documents what she’s feeling–and she
has a lot to say!

This one just sounds like it could be fun!

Here is the blurb from Goodreads:

Strategy is everything when it comes to gaming — and girls.

Zach
is used to living in a world of legendary battles, epic journeys, and
life-or-death situations. As a gamer, he is hard-wired for adventure,
even though it’s from the comfort of his parents’ couch. But nothing has
prepared him for battling the biggest storm in Saskatchewan’s history.

On
top of this, Zach has finally met the girl of his dreams, but he finds
himself helping everyone else stay safe while his best friend spends
time with her. What Zach doesn’t realize is that love always finds its
way when you’ve found the right person and are ready to risk it all to
save the day.

I always like a good fairy tale retelling, especially if they’re updated like this one sounds like.

Here is the blurb from Goodreads:

After Beau LeFrancois’s
mother wrecks Bett Diaz’s luxury SUV, his family faces an impossibly
large bill—with no car insurance to help pay it. To pay off the debt,
Beau spends his weekends working at the Diaz Ranch.

Beau’s
prepared to work, but he’s definitely not prepared for the infamous
temper of Bett Diaz, also known as “The Beast” at school. As Beau learns
the secrets behind Bett’s tough exterior, he finds himself falling for
her . . . until he catches Bett in a lie.

A contemporary twist on
a classic fairy tale, Beau and Bett is a timely story of family,
friendship, and the power of speaking out and standing up for yourself.

  1. I am a fan of Berla's books, and I enjoyed Beau & Bett. It's a subtle retelling, but even if it had nothing to do with Beauty and the Beast, it was still a great story of friendship and family and forgiveness.
