Title: Lord Have Mercy
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Series: The Southern Gentleman #2
Genre: Adult contemporary romance
Release Date: April 23rd, 2019
Source: E-galley from Wildfire Marketing Solutions which did not influence my opinion
My rating: 5 stars
Synopsis:
Poor judgment: knowing better yet doing
it anyway.
Flint Stone is a professional in every way.
He’s a police officer with the K-9 unit and
works at Gun Barrel High as the school resource officer. In his spare time,
he’s working his heart out to create a successful gym from the ground up.
He’s loved by every single person he ever
encounters—student, faculty, and employees—Everyone but Camryn Elvis Presley.
The only thing they have in common is their
mothers’ poor excuses for names.
Period. The end.
So why is it every time she crosses his path
that he has the urge to mess up her perfectly curled hair? Or unbutton a few of
her prim and proper buttons?
He knows he should stay away, yet like the high
schoolers he’s around every day, he has no choice but to react first and think
about the consequences later.
Side note—bad decisions are made, leading to
lapses in judgment that threaten both of their jobs. Yet when the time comes,
neither one can seem to find the wherewithal to care. Why? Because being bad
feels so good.

My Review:
I'm pretty sure that Lani Lynn Vale is one of my new favorite authors. I mean, this book started off with a reference to the Final Destination movie series, something that I think about all the time from that movie! It's funny to read my updates on Goodreads as I was reading this, I keep going on and on about how much I love this author! So much that she does in her stories makes me laugh, and keeps me turning pages, staying up way later than I should. One fun thing is that each chapter has a little text or note from one of the characters, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the actual story in that chapter, but is so funny and gives you such a fun snippet of the characters on the first chapters, and by the end you're just chuckling at the little tidbit and thinking how that is sooooo whatever character it is. The characters are real, but fun. All the characters play a role in the story, even ones that you might think are just there as extras end up having bigger parts to play a lot of times. I loved the total hate/lust that was between Flint and Camryn. And their names, so perfect! Flint Stone. And Camryn Elvis Presley. But it's not all fun and games and just gossipy issues at school for the drama. There's real drama at the end. Major drama. Some tears drama for me. But lots of loyalty and love and steam to make it the kind of story I have come to love and expect from this author.

Same! I'm not a MC reader, but the rest of her books I'll be devouring! Thanks for stopping by!
I remember reading your review of the first book and how much you enjoy this author's writing. I still don't have a clue about the joke and I tried to research it for you. I do love finding authors that can make readers laugh.
Yeah, and I haven't gotten any replies from the author yet either. 🙁 Thanks for visiting!
I love when the pop culture references refer to books or movies that I love as well, so I can see how that was a good start. I also really like that the author takes the time to characterise with those little chapter endings. So nice!
It is fun to see those types of things, even when they have nothing to do with what actually happens in that chapter. Thanks for stopping by!
