Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings to spotlight
and talk about the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read.
Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on
Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I’m a huge fan of fairy tale and other story retellings. I’m a little ashamed to admit that I’ve never actually sat down and watched the movie Mulan, but have been seen bits and pieces of it. However, it is often retellings or the mention of classic stories in more modern stories that spark my interest in the original that I never was interested in or maybe just never got to. And so this one has me intrigued! Here is the blurb from Goodreads:
What if Mulan had to travel to the Underworld?
When Captain Shang is mortally wounded by Shan Yu in battle, Mulan must travel to the Underworld, Diyu, in order to save him from certain death. But King Yama, the ruler of Diyu, is not willing to give Shang up easily. With the help of Shang’s great lion guardian ShiShi, Mulan must traverse Diyu to find Shang’s spirit, face harrowing obstacles, and leave by sunrise–or become King Yama’s prisoner forever. Moreover, Mulan is still disguised as the soldier called Ping, wrestling with the decision to reveal her true identity to her closest friend. Will Mulan be able to save Shang before it’s too late? Will he ever be able to trust her again? Or will she lose him–and be lost in the Underworld–forever?
Are you a fan of retellings like I am? Have you read any of the others in this series? I read the first one by Liz Braswell, A Whole New World, but the 2nd, Once Upon a Dream, was a DNF for me. I didn’t bother with the third in the series, since it was by the same author, but I’m willing to give this one a try since it is a different author. Have you seen the movie Mulan? What book are you eagerly awaiting this week?

I adore retellings. I haven't read many but I'm such a sucker for Disney movies so this one appeals to me a great deal. Mulan is a great Disney movie and story!
I do really like the Disney retellings, that way it is neat to see the movie done with different aspects. Thanks for stopping by!
I've never watched Mulan and don't know that this book would interest me but I'll be looking forward to your thoughts when you read it.
I've not seen it all the way through, but often a retelling is the first I will read of a fairy tale/story, and it will make me interested enough to go back and read/see the original. Thanks for visiting!
I love retellings, but fairy tale retellings have a special place in my heart. I can't believe I haven't heard of this one before since I love Mulan. Must add to my wishlist! I have not read the other books in this series, but this one I will definitely read as soon as it is released.
Thanks for sharing. Happy readings! 😉
