Waiting on Wednesday: The Black Key (The Lone City #3) by Amy Ewing

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine where we spotlight upcoming releases that we’re eagerly awaiting.  This week I’ve picked the final book in a series that I’ve really enjoyed.  One that I’m sad there won’t be an ARC for, because I’d like to have the whole set in ARCs!!  You can read my reviews of the first two books here:  The Jewel and The White Rose.  And here is the blurb from Goodreads for this final book:

For too long, Violet and the people of the outer circles of the Lone City have lived in service to the royalty of the Jewel. But now the secret society known as the Black Key is preparing to seize power.

And while Violet knows she is at the center of this rebellion, she has a more personal stake in it—her sister, Hazel, has been taken by the Duchess of the Lake. Now, after fighting so hard to escape the Jewel, Violet must do everything in her power to return to save not only Hazel, but the future of the Lone City.

Have you read this series?  I know some people didn’t like the second book, and it wasn’t as good as the first one for me, but I liked it enough that I must find out where the story goes.  What book are you eagerly awaiting this week?

  1. I remember reading the first book about two years ago and liking it, but not loving it. If I were to continue with the series, I'd have to refresh myself on what happened in the first book. I love the cover! This series has such great covers. 😀

    • I loved the first book, although the second wasn't quite as good. But I need to know how it finishes! And yeah, I love those covers! Thanks for stopping by!

Hi! Nice to meet you! Looking forward to reading through your blog this month 😀

I've actually seen The Jewel quite a bit the year it came out, though I hadn't picked it up yet. I'm mostly wary over books with ballgowns in their covers, lol. This one and The Winners Crime books by Rutkoski did sound interesting, though, so when I get back in my YA dystopias, I might pick give this series a try! 🙂

    • It definitely was a good read. And the second book she totally isn't wearing the gown for the majority of it, so it just is a pretty cover. Thanks for stopping by, and looking forward to getting to know you as well!

  3. I didn't love book one of this series, so I never continued with the series! I like the progression of the covers though, there's good symbolism there. I hope you enjoy this book when you get a chance to read it!

Thanks for visiting my blog! Have a fantastic week, Lisa. =)

  4. I liked The Jewel but just never found myself gravitating towards the second in the series. Now that the third is about to be released I might have to get on that.

  5. Ohh great pick I haven't read this series yet because I have heard mix reviews about it, but I am really intrigued too give it a try. I hope you enjoy it when you get the chance. Thank you so much for stopping by my WOW pick Lisa.

    • The first one was really, really good I thought. The second one was just okay, but good enough that I want to finish the series. Thanks for returning the stop!
