Waiting on Wednesday: Worlds of Ink and Shadow: A Novel of the Brontes by Lena Coakley

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine where we spotlight upcoming releases that we’re eagerly awaiting.  For a change this week, I’m featuring a book that is not part of a series.  As far as I know, it will be a standalone.  I always love when historical fiction takes real people from history, and using what knowledge we have about them, weaves a story that brings them to life.  Here is the blurb from Goodreads:

Charlotte, Branwell, Emily, and Anne. The Brontë siblings have always been inseparable. After all, nothing can bond four siblings quite like life in an isolated parsonage out on the moors. Their vivid imaginations lend them escape from their strict upbringing, actually transporting them into their created worlds: the glittering Verdopolis and the romantic and melancholy Gondal. But at what price? As Branwell begins to slip into madness and the sisters feel their real lives slipping away, they must weigh the cost of their powerful imaginations, even as their characters—the brooding Rogue and dashing Duke of Zamorna—refuse to let them go.

Gorgeously written and based on the Brontës’ juvenilia, Worlds of Ink & Shadow brings to life one of history’s most celebrated literary families.

And as a lover of books and authors, what better type of people to read a historical fiction novel about than this group of siblings/authors?  What do you think? Does it sound like something you’d want to read?

What book are you eagerly awaiting this week?

  1. Yes, it sounds like something I want to read. I've always been fascinated with the Bronte family. Their history is so odd, what with the father outliving all of his children – the oldest 2 died within weeks of each other, and the youngest 3 died within 9 months of each other. That stubborn Charlotte held on the longest!

    • I love the historical fiction takes on famous people like this one. You know a lot about this family already, so I'll be interested in hearing what you think about this one! Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I really need to get more historical reads! I love the genre, but I feel like I don't read it nearly enough 🙂 This one sounds wonderful^^ thanks for bringing it to my attention and I hope that you'll love it! xx

  3. This isn't my normal read, but I have to admit that I have had my eye on it for some time. I may have to break down and check it out when it's released. Hope you love it!
