Waiting on Wednesday: The Shadow Cabinet (Shades of London #3) by Maureen Johnson

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine where we spotlight upcoming releases that we’re eagerly awaiting.  This will be my first one of these for 2015!!  Yay!  The book I’ve picked is the third in the series by one of my favorite authors and Twitter personalities, Maureen Johnson.  I really enjoyed the first one, but didn’t really care for the second one as much.  I’m  hoping this next one will get back to where I liked it.  Here is the blurb from Goodreads:

Rory and her friends are reeling from a series of sudden and tragic events. While racked with grief, Rory tries to determine if she acted in time to save a member of the squad. If she did, how do you find a ghost? Also, Rory’s classmate Charlotte has been kidnapped by Jane and her nefarious organization. Evidence is uncovered of a forty-year-old cult, ten missing teenagers, and a likely mass murder. Everything indicates that Charlotte’s in danger, and it seems that something much bigger and much more terrible is coming.

Time is running out as Rory fights to find her friends and the ghost squad struggles to stop Jane from unleashing her spectral nightmare on the entire city. In the process, they’ll discover the existence of an organization that underpins London itself—and Rory will learn that someone she trusts has been keeping a tremendous secret.

Sounds like it could be a good one, hoping to catch right back up where book 2 left off.  So how about you?  What book are you eagerly awaiting this week?

  1. I have the first in this series but haven't read it yet. I need to get on that. I love everything Maureen Johnson writes, so I'm sure I'll devour this series. I hope you enjoy it!

    • I'm a huge fan of Maureen Johnson, so I definitely had to read this series when it came out. But it's been too long it seems between this one and book 2, so I'm kind of impatient.

  2. I love finding new reads and haven't heard of the series before, but the author I'm pretty sure I have. Going to have to check Goodreads to see why she sounds familiar now. Nice choice and happy reading!

    • You should give her a try, I love the dialogue of her characters, which if you follow her on Twitter, you would totally see how she can write that way. Thanks for visiting!

  3. Yep yep yep, definitely reading this one! I read an ARC copy of The Madness Underneath and then it ended in one of the worst cliffhangers I have ever read! Now, TWO AND A HALF YEARS LATER, I will finally be able to get my emotions under control (I hope).

    • Oh yeah, it was a major cliffhanger! And I can't believe I've had to wait this long! I'd really hoped I'd get an ARC of this one last summer at BEA, seemed about time, but alas, no such luck.

    • I hope so as well. It seems like in 2013 there were a few third books in series that were disappointing, but 2014 seemed to be a lot of great endings! Thanks for returning the visit.

Ooh, this is totally new to me and I think I might have to check this out! It sounds really good!! Great pick, Lisa!! I hope you enjoy it when you get the chance to read it!! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by my WoW @ Addicted Readers! 🙂

    • The first one was pretty creepy, and while there were a few parts in the second one, it wasn't as good, so I'm hoping the third book brings it back around. Thanks for stopping by!
