A to Z April – T: Time Travel

Posted April 23, 2014 by Lisa Mandina in / 15 Comments

Although time travel is not in itself a genre, it is a type of story that I really seem to enjoy.  I’ve always kind of sided with the theory that you have to be careful because any little thing you change in the past will completely change the future.  But one of the books I’m going to share today doesn’t happen like that.  Which was really the only problem with it that I had, because I really liked the book.

1.

This is a pretty new teen time travel story.  I really enjoyed it!
2.

This is a trilogy that just finished up last winter.  I really liked it as well.  Loved the characters in it, although the time travel again wasn’t really what I was used to according to my theory.

3.

Of course, one of the classics, that is kind of where I get the theory that I agree with from.

4.

Now this classic story also has the theory that if you go back and change something, you do change what happens.  But it has the added depressing bit that no matter what you change, if it was meant to be, it will be.

5.

This is an older YA time travel series that I found when I first started teaching I believe, early 2000’s probably.  But I enjoyed it, so recommend it.

Do you like time travel stories?  If so, where do you fall on the different theories?  Do you think anything will change things to be totally different?  Or do you think if it’s destined to happen, it will happen?

Oh yeah!  And by the way, I just reached 900 Bloglovin followers!  So to celebrate, I’m giving away a $9 gift card to Amazon or Barnes & Noble, your choice!  If you are international, I will give you a choice of a book up to $9 at The Book Depository as long as they ship to your country, which you can check HERE.  Just fill out the Rafflecopter below!

    • Glad to give you some more ideas of good reads! I will try to look up and find your story. I haven't really figured out Wattpad yet. So we'll see. Thanks for visiting!

I loved Diana Gabaldon's Outlander and Lynn Kurland's time travel romances. Michael Crichton's Timeline was a good read too. Time travel is fun to read!

    • Timeline was one I almost used! I haven't read the Gabaldon series, the size of them makes me a bit leery with how many books I already have on my TBR pile. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I'm a huge fan of time travel books and have read sooooo many. I am even going to try writing one (maybe next year). The anachronisms and the changing of future events is a huge issue to deal with for writers (one of the reasons I am stalling on my book). It's the whole "butterfly effect" that's been documented in science. How could you not effect the future by participating in the past? I am wrestling with that problem. Visiting here from A to Z challenge.

    • One person I discussed this with said that maybe when you do change things, it splits into a new timeline/dimension maybe? I don't know. But that is the way I think of time travel, and the Butterfly Effect is exactly the right example. Thanks so much for visiting!

  3. I don't know much about Time Travel. The only book I've ever read that had time traveling in it was The Time Travelers Wife and although it was a great read it was some what confusing. I didn't get how he went through time.
I'm one who thinks if you went back through time you'd have to not do anything b/c the smallest of change can be the biggest of all damages done in the present. Am I making sense? LOL
Enough about Time Change, I'm no Dr. Who! Hahahaa! Thanks for the Give-away, maybe I can go back in time to make it where I will win! 🙂 Muah HA HA *my evil Laugh*

  4. The twitter link to tweet about the giveaway is being difficult. I would if I could 🙂 lol But this counts as a comment, right? 😉 I like time travel books, with the exception of The Time Traveler's Wife. I didn't emotionally connect with the characters.

As far as time traveling being possible? I accept the possibility of it. I'm not sure how I feel about the grandfather paradox. What movement has already happened, can't be undone by moving backward? Do you think? Perhaps concurrent timestreams? I don't know.

Congrats on making it through the April challenge! 🙂

Time is a human construct for the sake of quantifying movement, I think. If we discover a way for humans to survive moving faster than the speed of light, or passing through the dense gravity of a wormhole, then, yeah.

I think it might happen. Probably not in my lifetime. But sometime, some year, some century…someone will find a way.

    • All the things you say are things that make me think about time travel and not know for sure what could happen if it actually worked. Great comment too!

  5. Wow, my comment looks a little "off" lol, with that congratulations in the middle of it. I was reading up on the Hadron Collider mishaps theory, and came back to your page, didn't realize I was right in the middle of the comment. Anyhoo–great job making it through the A to Z!

I don't think it's possible to ever time travel, but I wish to God that there was a way. I mean never say never but I don't see it happening. The only time travel books I have read are Time Between Us and Time After Time and I absolutely loved those books. Thank you so much for the giveaway and I'm glad that you reached 900 hundred followers. Here's to many more!
