Stacking the Shelves – October 27, 2013

Posted October 27, 2013 by Lisa Mandina in Stacking the Shelves / 69 Comments

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.  It is a way for us to share the new books we have collected.  I haven’t done this since the beginning of the month, but truly, until this past week, I hadn’t really gotten many new books.  Which was kind of surprising, because there are several giveaways I won back in September that I seem to still be waiting on.  But I’ll give till the end of October before I email and ask about them.  It was my birthday this past Tuesday (go enter my Fierce Reads giveaway from that if you haven’t yet), and I got a gift card for Barnes and Noble from one of my sisters, which means I got a bunch of e-novellas for the challenge I’m going to hold in November.  Here is my haul:

Won in the Debut Authors 2013 Giveaways:

I won an ARC of this from Stormy at Book.Blog.Bake and the author Lauren Miller.  Very excited to read it!  And it was a choice between 2 ARCs and a hardcover, and call me crazy, but I’m always more excited with an ARC!  ðŸ™‚
E-galleys from Netgalley:

The first one I featured earlier this week as my WOW, and then I got approved on Netgalley for it!  Cool!  The 2nd one just has such a great cover, and I don’t feel we’ve had that much to read about Voodoo, so it sounds new and different.

Physical Book Purchased:

And of course I had to buy this the day it came out, since it was my birthday.  I’m almost done with it today, struggling through the last pages, as you’ll understand why if  you’ve read it.

Purchased With My Birthday Gift Card for my Nook:

I got a ton of novellas!!  Now, to be honest, I think two of them I did end up buying with my own money.  I’m going to host a November is for Novellas challenge I think.  Check back later this week for a sign up post.  So tell me, what did you add to your shelves this week?

  1. What a great haul!

I read Anyone But You last week and it was great! I'm probably the only one who didn't get Allegiant. I haven't read Insurgent yet so it's gonna take a while for me.
Also a lot of great ebooks you got! Love the Nightshade novellas and I really want Roar and Liv, too. Hope you enjoy The Moth in the Mirror as much as I did!

  2. What a great assortment of books. I'll have to check out some of those novellas once I catch up on the series that they are parts of. Thanks for visiting my blogs. Happy reading!

    • Yeah, I tried to only download the novellas that I'd gotten that far in a series. There were others for The Iron Fey series, but I wasn't that far, so I waited on those. Thanks for stopping by!

Great haul! Love all the books you aqcuired! Can't wait to see what you have to say about Allegiant! Thanks for stopping my STS earlier.

  4. Cursed looks SOOO GOOD!!
OMG I can't wait to see what you think of Allegiant…you know, typically I don't like to throw stones BUT! If I could I would like to set a HUGE bolder on Ms. Ross' writing hand for what she did to me.

    • Yeah, I really need to stop requesting e-galleys as there have already been a few I've not gotten to in time the last few months, and 2 or 3 of those were ones I really wanted to read! Maybe that'll be one of my New Year's Resolutions.

A lot of my friends enjoyed Parallel and I hope you do. That's such a shame that you're struggling through Allegiant. I refused to read the book when I found out about what happened.
    Enjoy all those novellas! 🙂

    Happy reading!
    Nick – My Haul

    • I really only struggled at the end of Allegiant when "that thing" happened. I'm looking forward to Parallel, glad to keep hearing such good things! Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Happy Belated Birthday! You got some great novellas, I'm usually not one for reading them, I always want to but can't justify spending the money =/ I'm kind of painfully cheap. I hope Allegiant ends well for you, I've been avoiding the internet because I haven't had a chance to buy it yet! Happy Reading this week =)

    • I'm cheap too, so that's why I asked my sister to give me a gift card that I would use specifically for buying those. As for how Allegiant ends, well, you can read my review, after you finish it. Thanks for stopping by!

  7. I've been meaning to get a bunch of those novellas, especially the Girl of Fire and Thorns ones! I love love the idea for November is for Novellas! I hope you have fun. 🙂 Happy reading!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I didn't know there was a Splintered Novella, I just went and purchased it! I hope you enjoy your new books!

    • I chose not to read the spoilers ahead of time, but did see some of the negative/upset comments that didn't give away the issue. It was definitely a tearful ending. Thanks for stopping by my STS as well!

Parallel looks really interesting! And great haul, birthday books are the best (ps. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!)! I need to pick up Allegiant soon, but I'm a little scared to start haha. And I love novellas, I think a November Novella challenge would be super fun. Hope you enjoy all your new books!
Thanks for sharing & stopping by Bookmunchies (:

    • Thanks! Yeah, it was a little scary to pick up and then hit the part that everyone is so up in arms about with Allegiant. You should definitely come back in November and join my Novella challenge, there will be a giveaway!

  10. Great haul! And you did really well with your birthday picks too! Love birthday books (Happy Belated Birthday!). And when it comes to ARCs vs hard covers, I'll always pick an ARC too. There's just something about them that I can't resist! Happy reading!

    • I love my ARCs, makes me feel special, or like I'm in a special club. I get so jealous when I see so many others that just get them sent to them. I need some contacts I guess! Thanks for stopping by!

  11. A lot of amazing reads, loved Legend! Happy Birthday! Hope you are enjoying Allegiant more than I am, 60% through and so far not one remotely exciting thing has happened, kind of waiting for the devastating ending everyone is talking about because at least then something will have happened, ha! Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Winning books is always fun. not getting them, not so much. Winter's Passage is just as good as the rest of the series! Great haul, hope you enjoy them!

  13. I still haven't read PARALLEL either! I believe I own an ebook copy but I haven't gotten around to read it yet. Too many books and not enough time! I really like the cover for CURSED. Hope you had a wonderful birthday and are enjoying all these new reads 🙂

    • I was okay with Allegiant. So far Divergent I loved, and I actually could have stopped with that book and been happy, because the 2nd one wasn't really very good either, in my opinion.

  14. Ohh Parallel! That book has been on my bookshelf for the longest time; I've heard it was really good. I hope you'll enjoy it! (:
Thanks for stopping by my STS! 😀

  15. I hadn't heard of many of the novellas you listed. I didn't even realize that some of those series had companion shorts! I'll definitely have to check them out.
