September is for Sequels Wrap-Up

Posted October 3, 2012 by Lisa Mandina in / 6 Comments

Well, I almost, but not quite made my goal of 8 books.  I didn’t finish my 8th book until yesterday, the 1st of October, so technically, it doesn’t count.  I’m kind of a stickler at times.  BUT, I did still go over what I’d set for the minimum for the challenge, 4, so I’m happy about that.  I’d also like to thank all of the people who participated!  I’m hoping to do this again next year.  Although September is always going to be a hard month for me as long as I’m a teacher.  Here’s to hoping that by next fall I’ll have a library job so that I don’t have to spend time grading when I want to be reading!  Here are the list of books I planned to read:

  1. One of our Thursdays is Missing by Jasper Fforde
  2. Dust & Decay by Jonathan Maberry
  3. Insurgent by Veronica Roth
  4. Shadows by Ilsa J. Bick
  5. City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare
  6. Deadly Little Lies by Laurie Stolarz
  7. Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick
  8. Ashen Winter by Mike Mullin

And here are the list of books I actually ended up reading (only two were from my planned list):

  1. Shadows (Ashes #2) by Ilsa J. Bick (From original list)
  2. The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus) by Rick Riordan
  3. Torn (The Missing #4) by Margaret Peterson Haddix
  4. Silence (Hush Hush #3) by Becca Fitzpatrick (From original list)
  5. Truth (XVI #2) by Julia Karr
  6. Second Chance (The Slayer Chronicles #2) by Heather Brewer
  7. Forge (Chains #2) by Laurie Halse Anderson
  8. Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse #11) by Charlaine Harris (didn’t finish till October 1)
If you participated, how did you do?

And finally, because I know it is on the minds of all of you who participated and entered the contest, the winner of the $20 gift card to Amazon is………….. (drum roll):

Jessi from Auntie Spinelli Reads!!!!!

Thanks again to all who participated, and I sure hope you’ll come back next September and bring some other friends with you to join in!  I had a lot of fun sponsoring this challenge, and wish I’d done a lot more interaction with those participating.  Hopefully next year I can.  And, I learned how to make a button!  That was really exciting!

  1. Tin

Many thanks for hosting such a wonderful challenge. I started late but managed to finish all 4 books that I was planning to read.

    Congratulations to the winner!

  2. Thanks for hosting the challenge, it was a great motivation to tackle some books that had been on my shelf for a while! I managed to read the four books I had planned (I started two weeks late), though I didn't get around to reviewing the last one yet. I'm still counting the challenge as a success. Congrats on (almost) making your goal of 8 books!
Happy reading to the winner 🙂

    • That's what I figured for myself, good motivation! While I didn't read the ones I originally intended to, I did end up reading some that I needed to, so it did work out. I'm so glad you participated, and I hope you'll join me again next year!

  3. Congrats!! I set my goal at 5 (I was participating in 2 other challenges as well), and sadly I didn't finish the last one til October 1st like you did! So I was one short. 🙁

I'm so excited to have won the giveaway, thanks so much for hosting! Looking forward to next year 🙂

    • I kept out of other challenges, although really I did have other books I should have been reading to help select next year's Truman award nominees for my state school library association. Oh well. So glad you participated, and congratulations again on winning the gift card! I get paid Friday, so will probably get the gift card set up then. Hope you'll consider joining in again next year if I run this again.
