Follow Friday #14

Feature and Follow Friday is a blog hop that helps expand your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. It is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. This week’s question is:

What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or think plots. Tell us about it!

Wow, this is kind of a hard question this week! Just because I’m not sure what pet peeves I have with books. I either like them or I don’t. I know that with realistic type fiction, I have trouble when I can’t relate to the main character, especially if there is any romance. As someone who is in their late 30’s and single, never been married, it is hard for me to read about women who are unhappy in their marriages. I’m not saying I don’t think those kind of stories aren’t realistic, they just don’t speak to me. So, not sure if that is a pet peeve, but that is something that I do think about a lot when it comes to choosing books to read.

What are your pet peeves? Surely you have better, more thought out ones than I do.

  1. I had a difficult time trying to answer this week, too! Eventually, I found some things that put me off of reading certain books though.

  2. I'm definitely the same way! I think that the main character is one of the biggest make-it-or-break-it factors for me! If I can't connect with a protagonist or if she bothers me, then I can't love the book as much as I'd want. And I prefer happy marriages to unhappy ones any day, too! 🙂

Awesome answer, Lisa! I hope you have an amazing weekend!

  3. Yeah I think that can definitely be a pet peeve. Just like when people who aren't necessarily skinny get irritated at really skinny people who complain they're fat. 😛

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I think that Bella mirrors a lot of what other people feel. I know I've felt that way a lot myself. Maybe that's why it bothers me. 😛

Ugh. I hate when that happens. I think main characters that are awesome and likable should be an essential when writing a story. I love stories that have such amazing characters that have their own personalities.

  5. I definitely struggle with enjoying a book if I can't relate to the main character. I think that's why I find it hard to read a lot of contemporary YA, because the experiences these girls are having in high school are so completely opposite to what I experienced that I just can't believe it.

  6. You make a great point about a book, there isn't always one thing that stands out to make me like or dislike it. Sometimes the author just makes it work and I love it 🙂

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm a new follower!
